Born on October 23, 1952, in Port Hueneme, California, Sherry was the daughter of Evalena and Darrell “Bud” Hawbaker. On August 2nd, 1986, she married Arthur Leo Pruemer, her life partner who preceded her in death on August 12, 2022. Sherry was not only a teacher at Dieterich School District for over 25 years but also a dedicated Fuller Brush salesperson for over 30 years. Her commitment to education and service to the community remained unwavering throughout her life. Sherry’s nurturing spirit extended beyond the classroom. Her devotion to her family was evident in her love for her children, Rhett and Alena, and her grandchildren, Noah and Lincoln. She embraced her role as a grandmother and step-grandmother to Kaiden and Ethan, cherishing the time spent with them.
An avid gardener, Sherry found solace in tending to her roses, sharing her love for nature with those around her. Her love for cooking, shopping, and the joy of giving gifts to others illuminated her generous heart. Sherry’s warm and welcoming demeanor made her a cherished neighbor and a beloved friend to many. A memorial service to honor Sherry will be held at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham on Thursday, December 21, 2023, followed by her burial at St. Francis Cemetery in Teutopolis, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Francis Church or to the family.
Sherry Pruemer’s legacy of kindness, dedication, and selflessness will forever be remembered by the lives she touched. Her impact as an educator and her compassionate spirit will continue to resonate within the hearts of the Dieterich community. In this time of loss, we extend our deepest sympathies to her family, friends, and all those who were fortunate to have known and been inspired by Sherry. Her memory will be cherished, and her contributions to our community will never be forgotten.
