Robert A. Barcomb Obituary, Death – On November 8, 2023, Robert A. Barcomb, who was 88 years old and lived on West Royalston Road, passed away without incident. He was the son of Louis and Florence (Strafaci) and was born in North Adams on August 1, 1935. He grew up in North Adams, attended schools there, and ultimately graduated from North Adams State College. His parents’ names were Louis and Florence. Robert wed Michaeleen M. (Whelan) on April 15, 1967, and the couple has now been together for 56 years as a married couple.
Robert, who was a teacher, began his career in Clarksburg, where he remained for a couple of years before going to Athol. There, he worked as a teacher for the Athol Junior High School for a total of 33 years. In addition to his role as a teacher, Robert also coached the junior high school’s football, golf, and soccer teams. Robert was an active member of the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, and he led multiple troops as a leader for both organizations.
In addition to being a fervent supporter of the Boston sports teams, Robert was an ardent bowler and golfer. It was something that he cherished doing in his spare time immensely. In the past, Robert had been active in the Knights of Columbus organization. He particularly appreciated his time spent volunteering at Athol High School and assisting the youngsters of the community. His devoted wife, Micheleen Barcomb; his children, Martin C. Barcomb of Orange and Mary A. Kablin and her husband, Jimmy, of Wrentham; a niece and two nephews; and his loving wife, Micheleen Barcomb, are among his survivors.
The family will have visitors at the funeral home on Sunday, November 19, 2023 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. The funeral home is located at 158 South Main Street in Orange. On Monday, November 20, 2023, family and friends will gather privately at St. Francis of Assisi Church, which is located at 101 Main Street in Athol, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. South View Cemetery in North Adams will be the location of the private interment.
Donations can be made in lieu of flowers to the St. Francis of Assisi Fuel Fund, which can be sent to the OLI Rectory at 192 School Street, Athol, Massachusetts 01331, or to the Care Central VNA & Hospice at 34 Pearly Lane, Gardner, Massachusetts 01440. Both addresses can be found in the obituary.
