Jerry Mae Stalnaker-Groff Wandling Obituary, Death – At the age of 88, Jerry Mae Stalnaker-Groff Wandling, who resided in Heaters, West Virginia, unexpectedly passed away at United Hospital Center on Saturday, November 11, 2023. She was born on January 24, 1935, in Braxton County, West Virginia, to the late William “Bill” Stalnaker and Arlene “Arlie” Golden Stalnaker. Her father passed away before she was born. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Glenneth “Curley” Wandling, her brothers Joe and Jack Stalnaker, and her first husband, Harley T. “Jiggs” Groff. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her loving husband.

Jerry Mae was a voracious reader of newspapers. She was a devoted follower of collegiate athletics, particularly football at West Virginia University and the University of Alabama. In her younger years, up until the point when she was unable to, she maintained a sizable vegetable garden and put the harvest up in jars. It brought her great joy to tend to her property. Jerry Mae used to take pleasure in sitting on the front porch and observing the many animals that passed by.

It was her favorite thing to do to see her loved ones and friends. She professed to be a Christian in her daily life. She was a beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandma who would be lost terribly by everyone. Her passing will be deeply felt by all. Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Dale Groff, of Heaters, WV; daughter, Nobie Holley-Dean (Craig) of Burnsville, WV; stepdaughter, Connie Byus (Ron) and their family of Mason County, WV; two special grandchildren, Justin Groff (Samantha) of Heaters, WV and Shealyn Holley (Matt) of Columbus, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Aria, Auron, and Arley Fincham, and Ryleigh Groff.

At the Roach Funeral Home in Gassaway, the family will be present to greet visitors from 6 to 8 o’clock in the evening on Friday, November 17, 2023, and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 18th.
On Saturday, at one o’clock in the afternoon, the funeral service for her will take place at the funeral home, with Pastor Jason Allen presiding.

After the service, the body will be laid to rest at the Wandling-Groff Family Farm Cemetery near Heaters, West Virginia. Donations in memory of Jack Stalnaker should be sent to Shirley Stalnaker at 736 Acorn Court, Warrenton, Virginia 26186. The family has asked that flowers not be sent but rather memorial contributions be sent to the Jack Stalnaker Athletic Scholarship.
