Freddie Rivers Sr Obituary, Death – On November 10, 2023, retired Barnstable Police Detective Freddie “Fred” Rivers Sr., age 79, passed away. It is with great sadness that the Barnstable Police Department makes this announcement. Fred was a veteran of the United States Army. He was born in Beaufort, South Carolina, but he spent his childhood on Cape Cod. He attended Barnstable High School, where he graduated in 1964. He also attended Cape Cod Community College.
Between the years 1971 and 1974, Fred served as the first African-American police officer in the town of Yarmouth. After that, he joined the Barnstable Police Department and remained there until 1980, when he was promoted to the position of detective. Fred remained with the BPD until his retirement in 1996. After he retired, he started his own firm and served as a security guard at the Hyannis Public Library for a number of years. His company was called Fred Rivers Investigative Services.
