At the age of 54, Chris passed away peacefully at his home in Bridgeport, Alabama, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, love for the outdoors, and a profound impact on those who were fortunate enough to know him. This tribute aims to celebrate the life of a man who cherished the simple joys, embraced family, and made lasting connections with friends and loved ones. Born in Franklin County, Chris was a proud graduate of Franklin County High School in 1988. He continued his education at Kemper Military Academy, graduating in 1990. These formative years shaped Chris’s character, instilling in him a sense of discipline, camaraderie, and the values that would guide him throughout his life.
Chris was an avid outdoorsman who found solace and joy in the natural world. Hunting, fishing, and playing golf were not just hobbies for him; they were expressions of his deep connection with the environment. Whether it was a quiet day on a fishing boat, the thrill of a successful hunt, or the camaraderie of a round of golf, Chris found fulfillment in the simple pleasures of life outdoors. A member of St. Bernard’s Episcopal Church, Chris’s faith was an integral part of his life. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, William “Bill” Tate and Frances Tate; maternal grandparents, Robert Wilson Layne Jr and Emma Meeks Layne; father, Danny Lee Tate; and sister, Kimberly Parman. These losses shaped Chris’s understanding of the fragility of life and deepened his appreciation for the moments shared with those he held dear. Chris leaves behind a legacy of cherished relationships, starting with his significant other, Cassandra King. His mother, Shirley Tate, sister Dana (Bubba) Ingleburger, and brother-in-law Michael Parman were not only family but lifelong companions. Chris was a devoted father to his children, Chelcey (Sean) Rayome, Courtney (Austin) Caroll, Layne Tate, and Carly Tate. The joy he found in being a grandfather to Emmy and Rylie Rayome, and Eli Caroll was evident in the love he showered upon them.
